Professor Ilian Bonev received a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering from the TU-Sofia (Bulgaria) in 1996 and a master's degree in mechatronics from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea) in 1999. In 2002, he received a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Laval University (Quebec, Canada). He joined the École de technologie supérieure in 2004 where he is teaching mainly industrial robotics.

Professor Bonev conducts research in the field of design and analysis of parallel robots (hexapods, Stewart platforms, etc.) and in the field of precision robotics (industrial robot calibration, robot metrology, etc.).

Head of the Control and Robotics Laboratory (CoRo)
Cofounder of Mecademic (manufacturer of the smallest industrial robot)
