Professional Affiliations:

A PhD researcher specialized in Big Data HPC applications based on Hadoop, Spark, H2O and many other cloud computing technologies applied to healthcare, banking and the construction industries. Having been at the forefront of many product development initiatives over the years, Dr. April uses his expertise to guide technology executives and provides due diligence consultancy to government officials, banking executives and Big Data start-ups concerning recent applications of HPC technologies and the quality of software packages or services to be acquired. Knowledgeable in the most popular cloud services suppliers (i.e. Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Amazon) ensures that software application architecture can benefit from HPC hardware and is scalable. Professor April has been developing health care HPC applications in the area of genomic visualisation, genotyping sequencing and whole genome sequencing using Berkeley’s Adam data structure for HPC. Professor April and his team of students are developing machine learning algorithms, based on Stanford’s H2O technology, jointly with the help of researchers from hôpital Sainte-Justine, CHUM (Centre hospitalier de l'Université Montréal) for diabetes type 2 and children leukaemia treatments. Previously Head of the front-office and software procurement at Batelco and Bell Canada, he was also responsible for the technical due diligence and quality of the software acquisition contractual agreements for these telecommunications companies.
