Scientific Communication Competitions:

  • ÉTS Science Poster Competition
    The goal of the competition is to introduce complex scientific notions in easy-to-understand language. You can choose to present –in lay terms– a topic related to your ongoing research project or any scientific or technological subject. 
    Registration for the competition closes on February 6. 
    Competition date: February 26, 2026
  • Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT)
    Organized by the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS), you will have three minutes sharp to present your research to a panel of non-specialist judges. The challenge is to present complex research information in an engaging, accessible and compelling way.
    Registration from February 2 to March 1.
    Competition date: March 24, 2026.

  • Scholarships from foreign governments
    These scholarships allow students to pursue their studies and research in other countries.

  • Explore Program
    Explore allows students to obtain funding to learn French or English through an intensive language-immersion program while discovering another region of Canada.

  • Transportation Association of Canada Foundation (TAC)
    Scholarships intended for students who are enrolled in a transportation-related program.

  • ASEQ (Alliance pour la santé étudiante au Québec) Foundation Grants
    Grants intended to support student-driven initiatives and encourage academic, extracurricular and social involvement. The amount of each grant varies depending on the project, to a maximum of $5,000.

  • Fernand-Séguin scholarships (in French)
    Scholarships intended for future science journalists, combined with training and internships with various medias.

  • Desjardins Foundation Scholarships
    Scholarships valued at $1,500, $3,000 or $10,000, depending on the level of study.

  • Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) - NSERC
    NSERC Scholarships for students who wish to undertake a research work term during the Summer 2025 session (recognized as a mandatory work term within the context of the study program). There will be two other selections for Fall and Winter.
    Deadline for the internal selection: March 11, 2026
  • The Engineers Canada Leadership Scholarship 
    Eight scholarships of $4,000 for students who demonstrate leadership potential in advancing engineering.
    Deadline for submitting a candidacy to the organization: March 16, 2026
  • Renewable (2 years) financial support offered by a private fund
    6 renewable scholarships available each semester for a period of two years, offered to full-time students (Canadian citizens / permanent residents) who have completed their first semester of a bachelor's degree in Engineering in Fall 2025 and cumulated a minimum of 12 credits, who have shown potential for success in their first year of studies in Engineering. This scholarship is intended for those whose financial challenges in the coming years may jeopardize the continuation of their studies and their graduation.

  • Personnal Awards for Black Scholars 
    These awards aim to promote strategic growth in heart and brain health science with Black communities by supporting Black students pursue their post graduate studies.
    Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: February 12, 2026
  • Scholarships for graduate studies in London 
    Five or more scholarships of £7,500 and one scholarship of £12,500, offered by London Goodenough Association of Canada to pursue graduate studies in London.

  • Engineers Canada National Scholarships
    Scholarships for engineers licensed in Canada who are undertaking graduate studies.

  • CSA Group Graduate Scholarships 
    Scholarships intended to support graduate students in the pursuit of knowledge related to standards.

There are currently no exclusive competitions in effect.

  • Science Exposed 
    This contest organised by NSERC and Acfas seeks images that stem from research in all fields of study.
    Deadline: February 9, 2026

Other sources of funding

  • Mitacs Accelerate – Standard program
    This program offers paid internships at a partner business that agrees to contribute to the financing and to host the student at its premises to work on activities related to a joint research project. This program offers considerable flexibility in terms of eligibility, duration of work terms and allocation of time for research at the business.
    There is no set deadline for submitting applications. Applications must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the scheduled start of the internship. Several financing models are available.
  • Business Strategy Internship
    This program offers paid innovative internships at a partner business that agrees to contribute to the financing and to host the student at its premises to work on activities related to a joint research project to carry out the innovation activities of the organization, in order to help improve its products, processes or services. This program offers considerable flexibility in terms of eligibility, duration of work terms and allocation of time for research at the business. 
    There is no set deadline for submitting applications. Applications must be submitted at least 5 weeks before the scheduled start of the internship. Several financing models are available.
  • Mitacs Globalink Research Award
    $6,000 fellowship for senior undergraduates and graduate students to conduct 12-24 week research projects at universities abroad. 
    There is no set deadline for submitting applications. The number of available scholarships are limited. Applications must be submitted at least 16 weeks before the start of the project.
