An ÉTS academic year spans 12 months, split into 3 regular semesters of 4 months (15 weeks) each: 

  • Fall semester: September to December 
  • Winter semester: January to April 
  • Summer semester: May to August

For international students  

Not studying in the summer will almost automatically result in you exceeding your program’s expected completion date. If this happens, you will need to extend the expiry dates on your immigration documents. Steps are listed on our Immigration page.  

Unlike some academic systems outside Canada, there is no makeup period at the end of a semester. Exams are the last part of a semester. You should not plan any activities or leave Québec before the end of a semester (noted on the calendar).
