Pratt & Whitney Canada Industrial Chair on Propulsion System Integration and Optimization
About the Chair
The mission of the Pratt & Whitney Canada Industrial Chair on Propulsion System Integration and Optimization is to develop an automated and integrated turbine system optimizer (TSO) and to establish an optimal balance among aerodynamic capabilities, cooling air, durability, cost and weight, along with other elements, with a view to producing the best possible performance.
The TSO that is developed must be applicable during the preliminary and detailed design phases for aircraft engines, and must produce the highest-quality results while decreasing design delays and costs.
Research
The objectives of the Chair are as follows:
- Apply the multidisciplinary optimization (MDO) approach to the preliminary design phase for aircraft engines;
- Develop new turbine correlations;
- Develop optimization factors for the design;
- Deploy a fully-integrated turbine design system at the preliminary design phase.
