Teaching

Guiding principles

  • Support departments and professors in integrating key sustainable development skills into their teaching.
  • Prioritize the integration and implementation of sustainable development concepts among students.

The integration of sustainable development principles into teaching is an essential element in training those who will play key roles in its implementation by developing technological and innovative solutions to today’s challenges. In addition to representing a firm commitment on the part of ÉTS, the integration of sustainable development principles into teaching is a requirement of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).

ÉTS offers more than 70 courses that combine theory and practice related to sustainable development issues. Some of the disciplines that are offered include Environmental Engineering, Environmental Safety, Continuous Improvement, Sustainable Buildings, Energy Efficiency, Solar Energy and Water Management. More than 100 other courses also offer content that takes sustainable development into consideration.

Cooperative teaching and sustainable development

ÉTS students are aware of the environmental and social repercussions of the companies that hire them as interns during co-op work terms.

As a result, a growing number of interns prefer to acquire work experience in an environment that prioritizes sound social and environmental practices, in keeping with the increasing preoccupation with sustainable development in the industrial sector!

The selection of co-op work terms that incorporate sustainable development concerns is facilitated by a filter in the search function for internship offers.

Sustainable development co-op work term and scholarship

During the Winter session each year, the Co-operative Education Service awards a $2,500 scholarship to one student who exemplifies the principles and practices of sustainable development within the context of their internship.
