Smoking cessation support

ÉTS has adopted a Policy respecting the Fight against Smoking (PDF, in French), which is intended to create a smoke-free working and studying environment. Toward this end, ÉTS is committed to promoting non-smoking while prioritizing smoking cessation among the student community, faculty and staff at ÉTS.

Prohibited activities

In order to provide a smoke-free working and studying environment, the smoking of tobacco or any tobacco-derived product, and the use of any device that generates a vapor that is intended to be inhaled by the user (electronic cigarette), is prohibited in the following locations:

  1. ÉTS premises and buildings, including exam rooms, pursuant to the ÉTS Directive for Final Exams;
  2. Parking areas at ÉTS;
  3. Within a radius of (9) metres from any door, air intake or openable window connected with any ÉTS building;
  4. Inside all vehicles belonging to ÉTS;
  5. On rooftops or balconies at ÉTS;
  6. Inside tents, gazebos and other similar temporary or permanent facilities that are open to the public;
  7. In ÉTS residences, including interior courtyards at residences, except in authorized locations.

The sale or advertising of all tobacco products and electronic cigarettes on the ÉTS campus is prohibited at all times without express written permission from an authorized representative of ÉTS. Any product that contains tobacco, along with electronic cigarettes and any other similar device that is brought to the mouth for the purpose of inhaling any substance, whether containing nicotine or not, including all components and accessories, is considered equivalent to tobacco.

The acceptance of any donation or funding from the tobacco industry (including funds intended for research) is prohibited.

ÉTS reserves the right to apply administrative or disciplinary measures in the case of any violation of this Policy, especially pursuant to the Règlement sur la sécurité des personnes, des biens et sur les STI (By-law respecting the security of persons and goods and respecting the ITS) or the Règlement sur les infractions de nature académique (Regulation respecting academic infractions).
