Complaints of Wrongdoing
Processing of complaints concerning an academic or an administrative service
Under the responsibility of the Director of Academic Affairs, this procedure is intended for students to handle complaints about the academic (teaching, research framework) and administrative services offered to students at ÉTS.
Regulatory Framework
All of the regulations and guidelines applicable to academics and campus life are available in the Regulatory Framework section. Please note that all decisions rendered by disciplinary committees (departmental and institutional), the Institutional Committee (breach of the Code of Ethics) and review committees (undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate) are final and without appeal. Complaints concerning decisions rendered by these bodies are not eligible for the processing of academic complaints described here. Requests for grade revisions must also follow the process specific to each department.
Steps in the processing of complaints
Step 1
If you are of the opinion that the academic regulations have not been properly applied in your case, or if you have not received a service to which you believe you are entitled: First, discuss the matter with the instructor or the staff member who rendered the service with which you are not satisfied.
Step 2
If the response is not satisfactory, fill out the complaint form and send it by e-mail to plainte-etudiante@etsmtl.ca. The form will be forwarded to the manager of the appropriate service in order to assess the situation and attempt to resolve the problem, as applicable. If you wish, a copy of your complaint will be sent to the ÉTS student association. You may be invited to a meeting if additional information is required. Our objective is to provide you with a response within fifteen (15) days following the submission of your complaint.
Step 3
If the problem is not resolved to your satisfaction and you are of the opinion that the proposed solution does not comply with the regulations, procedures or policies in effect at ÉTS, you can appeal the decision by filling out the appeal form and sending it to the ÉTS administration by e-mail, at appel-plainte-etudiante@etsmtl.ca.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality will be strictly respected throughout the processing of your complaint.
