Ceremonies

Who is eligible?

• Bachelor's, master's, and doctoral graduates whose degrees were awarded between December 2023 and April 2024.
• The graduates whose degrees were issued by the « Assemblée des gouverneurs » in December 2023, March 2024 or April 2024.
• You must have paid all tuition fees in order to receive your diploma at this ceremony.

Important dates previous to the ceremonies

• Registration email sent on: April 16^th 2024
• End of registration period: April 30^th 2024
• Sending of tickets and passes: Week of May 20^th 2024

Tickets for graduates

• Free of charge. You will receive a pass.

Tickets for your guests

• $50 per person for guests. 
• No charge for children under two sitting on an adult's lap.
• Since graduates must enter the theater before doors are open to all, it is imperative that you give your guests their tickets before the ceremony.

Important information and Instructions

Dress code

• Business attire is required for graduates and their guests.  

Coatroom

• $3, required
• Place des Arts is not responsible for stolen or lost belongings (purses) left in the coatroom during the event. Therefore, if you have any concerns, we recommend that you leave your belongings with your guests.

Photos and videos

• The ceremony will be live-streamed on the ÉTS Facebook page so that your loved ones can attend remotely.
• A professional photographer will take individual photos when you go on stage to receive your diploma. Photos will be online within 72 hours of the ceremony at photopatrick.com.
• ÉTS convocation is a public event. Participants may see their images in the media, on the ÉTS website or Facebook page or in the school’s promotional materials. By registering for the ceremony, you accept these possibilities.

Can’t attend the ceremony?

To claim you diploma, you must access the Forms section on MonÉTS portal, then complete and submit the Réclamation du parchemin/Diplôme form.

No diploma will be issued without this duly completed form. If you prefer to pick up your diploma at the service desk of the Registrar’s Office, please indicate this in the comment section of the form. We will contact you to inform you of the time when you can come by. For any question on this topic, write to the Registrar's Office via the Info-ÉTS form and mention your permanent code.

The Ritual

As the name implies, the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer entails a voluntary and solemn Obligation that you undertake to the profession and affirm before your peers. The purpose of the Ritual is not to receive the ring, but rather, you wear the ring to symbolize your Obligation.

In light of this, you must attend the Ritual to receive the ring.

Who is eligible?

• This ceremony is open only to students who have completed their bachelor's degree in winter 2024.  
• If you are potentially eligible, you will receive an e-mail inviting you to register for the Ceremony. To qualify, your third co-op work term and your capstone project need to be completed or underway and these must be the last credits you need to obtain your diploma.
• If you cannot take part in the ceremony you are eligible for, you have 18 months after the end of your studies to take part in an ÉTS ceremony. If more than 18 months have elapsed, you can take part in a ceremony run by the Corporation of the Seven Wardens for senior candidates.

Tickets Prices

Student (Iron Ring recipient): $50
Guest / Sponsor: $40

Conditions

• The number of guest tickets is limited to 5. However, if tickets are still available a few days before the end of registration, we will contact you about the possibility of purchasing additional tickets.
• Children under 2 years of age are free, but must be seated on an adult’s lap. Please take into consideration that babies and young children are likely to become impatient at such an event.
• You must buy a ticket for your sponsor, unless it is a person who works at ÉTS.
• Tickets are non-refundable.
• Seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Information for Iron Ring Recipients

• Dress code: Business attire is required for graduates and their guests.
• Length of the ceremony: A little over two hours
• Reception: There will be a cocktail reception following the Ceremony. If you allow ÉTS to photograph you during this event, be aware that the photos may be used to develop promotional material for the School. 

Sponsors

Your ring will be presented to you by the sponsor of your choice. Here is everything you need to know to determine who is eligible to share this momentous occasion with you:

Conditions

To be a sponsor, a person must:

1) Be an engineer;
2) Have pronounced their commitment to the profession (have obtained the iron ring) more than 4 years ago. 

Who can be a sponsor?

• A member of ÉTS: You can ask a professor or lecturer to be your sponsor. If this is the case, please contact us by email at cei@etsmtl.ca to confirm the presence of your professor at the ceremony and cc your sponsor. He or she will then be able to obtain a pass.  
• Someone from the outside: You can ask a parent or friend to be your sponsor. However, it is important that this person be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. If this is your choice, please note that you will need to buy a ticket ($40) for your sponsor.

What information does my sponsor need?

If the sponsor is not an ÉTS member, send them the sheet entitled "Directive for Sponsors" (.DOC, in French). It is essential that they read this information.

If, on the day, you don’t have a sponsor, then what?

On the spot, you can simply ask a person who is already acting as a sponsor (professor or other) to put your ring on your finger.
