Major scholarship competitions are now open at the graduate and post-graduate levels. They are intended for students who wish to undertake or pursue their studies beginning in the Summer 2025, Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 (see the Master and Doctorate section below).
Crucial information for preparing an application file
If you plan to submit an application for a scholarship competition:
- Ensure that you meet ALL of the eligibility criteria for the competition in question.
- Do not wait until the last minute before preparing your application.
- Read all of the rules and guidelines for preparing your application.
- If applicable, enlist your sponsors in advance to give them ample time to draft a letter of recommendation or fill out the prescribed form (see Consignes pour les répondantes et les répondants (Guidelines for sponsors) in French.
- Respect the text presentation standards and guidelines.
- Be sure to enclose all required documents.
- Consult the fiches d’aide (information files) (in French) to give yourself the best chance of success.
Non-compliant files and incomplete files will be rejected.
Official transcripts
Only official transcripts are accepted! The transcripts available in Signets are not official transcripts. Consult the Registrar's Office web page for the procedure to follow, in order to obtain your official transcript. Don't wait until the last minute.
Great news – Increase in the annual value of the Canada Graduate Scholarship
To support graduate students, the federal government announced in its latest budget, the following increases in the annual value of scholarships; effective September 1:
- The Canada Graduate Scholarship – Master’s (CGS M) award value will increase from $17,500 to $27,000 per year.
- The Postgraduate Scholarships – Doctoral (PGS D) award value will increase from $21,000 to $40,000 per year.
- The Canada Graduate Scholarship – Doctoral (CGS D) award value will increase from $35,000 to $40,000 per year.

NSERC is hosting the following question and answer sessions for the doctoral scholarship programs:

Relève Étoile Awards (FRQ)
Have you recently published an article? If so, you may be eligible for the Relève Étoile Award. Each month, the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) awards $1,500 to a student researcher to promote research as a career and to recognize the excellence of student research (Master and PhD). Patent and book chapter are also accepted.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: September 12, 2024, 4:00 p.m.
Support for French-language integration
Master's with thesis students admitted on an adequate knowledge of English may get the reimbursement of French course tuition fees. Consult the web page for information on the program.

- Prix Relève 2024 du CERIU (CERIU succession awards) (in French)
$2,000 in financial support for an applied research project in the field of urban infrastructure.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 14, 2024, 12:00 (noon) - ASÉQ Foundation
Grant to encourage students initiatives and academic, extracurricular and social engagement. The amount varies depending on the project, up to a maximum of $5,000.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 30, 2024 - Arup’s Engineering Indigenous Student Scholarship
Scholarship intended to support and encourage Indigenous students throughout their post-secondary educational journey.

- Mining Industry Scholarships
The Quebec Mining Association offers three $1,000 scholarships to students in the earth sciences and related fields.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 2, 2024 - Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) - NSERC
Scholarships for students who wish to undertake a mandatory research work term during the Winter 2024 trimester.
Deadline for the internal selection: November 1st, 2024
- Financial support for the dissemination and promotion of research work
Up to $1,000 to cover expenses related to the presentation of your research project (Master's with thesis or Doctorate).
Submit applications via the graduate and post-graduate scholarships portal. - McCall McBain scholarships
Up to 130 scholarships offered to committed student planning to pursue a Master's program next year (2025).
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: September 25, 2024 - Travel Grants and Scholarships for research stays in RWTH Aachen University
Grants and scholarships to support stays of doctoral candidates from strategically relevant universities. Travel grant of 1,000 euros (lump sum) and monthly stipend of 1,800 euros for up to 6 months. For information write to international@etsmtl.ca.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: September 30, 2024 - Claude-Drouin Postgraduate Research Scholarship (Quebec Mining Association)
A $4,000 scholarship for postgraduate students whose research relates to the mining sector.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 2, 2024 - Graduate and post-graduate scholarships – FRQ sector Nature et technologies
Scholarship amount: $20,000 to $25,000 depending on the level.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 2, 2024, 4 p.m. - Réal-Decoste / Ouranos scholarships
Doctorate scholarships for research into climate changes and its impact.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 2, 2024, 4 p.m. - Partnership Training Scholarships - Régie de l'Énergie
$25,000 scholarships for students whose study program is in the fields targeted by the Régie de l'Énergie.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 2, 2024, 4 p.m. - Scholarships for Francophonie
$20,000 scholarships intended for francophone students who wish to enter or continue a Master’s program.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 2, 2024, 4 p.m. - Graduate and post-graduate scholarships – FRQ sector Santé
Scholarship intended for students whose research concerns a health-related field.
Scholarship amount: $20,000 to $25,000 depending on the level.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 3, 2024, 4 p.m. - Climate Action Scholarship Program
$12,000 scholarships to doctoral students to provide an opportunity to participate in the future of climate action in Québec.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 15, 2024, 4 p.m. - Graduate Studies Scholarships (IRSST)
Master and Doctorate scholarships for research programs that focus on the prevention of workplace accidents and occupational diseases or on the rehabilitation of workers who are victims of such incidents. Scholarship amount: $19,000 to $25,950 per year, depending on the level.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 16, 2024, 4 p.m. - NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship (Doctorate)
Scholarship amount: $27,000 to $40,000 per year.
Deadline for submitting an application to the organization: October 17, 2024
Exemption from additional tuition fees (Master’s)
Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria before visiting the portal. Furthermore,
students whose country has signed a cooperation and bilateral agreement with the Quebec government must
apply for an exemption though this agreement and send a proof of their application and, if available, a copy of the answer received.
Deadline for submitting an application via the graduate and post-graduate scholarships portal: September 23, 2024, 3 p.m.

Other financial aid
- Mitacs Accelerate – Standard program
This program offers paid internships at a partner business that agrees to contribute to the financing and to host the student at its premises to work on activities related to a joint research project. At least 50% of the student’s research time must be spent at the partner organization. This program offers considerable flexibility in terms of eligibility, duration of work terms and allocation of time for research at the business.
There is no set deadline for submitting applications. Applications must be submitted at least 6 weeks before the scheduled start of the internship. - Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship
These grants are in addition to the Mitacs Accelerate standard grants described above. They require an industrial partner, and are accompanied by customized professional development training. - Mitacs Accelerate International
$15,000 grants for bilateral research collaborations (16 to 24 weeks) with an international company. Applications can be submitted to the organization at any time. Applications must be submitted at least 12 weeks before the scheduled start of the project.

$6,000 fellowship for senior undergraduates and graduate students to conduct 12-24 week research projects at universities abroad. There is no set deadline for submitting applications. Applications must be submitted at least 16 weeks before the start of the project.
