In recognition of her scientific influence on the international stage and her outstanding contributions to aeronautics, the Romanian Academy has elected Professor Ruxandra Botez an Honorary Member of the Technical Sciences Section. Professor Botez is one of eight new honorary members chosen this year, and the first woman to be elected to this section.
The Romanian Academy, which brings together eminent members in the arts and sciences, selects its members among personalities who have made a significant contribution to the progress of society, through work recognized for its theoretical and practical value. Professor Botez joins the 20 members of this section, one of the Academy’s 14 sections.
The official awards ceremony was held on October 24 at the Romanian Academy headquarters in Bucharest. As part of the ceremony, Professor Botez received her honorary membership diploma, membership card and badge.
About Ruxandra Botez
A specialist in aerospace engineering, Professor Botez is renowned for her work on flight control and airborne systems modeling. Holder of the Canada Research Chair in Aircraft Modeling and Simulation Technologies, and Director of the Research Laboratory in Active Controls, Avionics and Aeroservoelasticity (LARCASE), Professor Botez has supervised over 400 graduate students. She has carried out numerous major aeronautical projects in collaboration with aerospace industry leaders such as Bombardier, Bell Helicopter, CAE, CMC Electronics, Teledyne FLIR Systems, GlobVision, Hydra Technologies, Presagis, Thales and Alenia. She also collaborated with international research centers including the Italian Center for Aerospace Research (CIRA), the Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI), the German Aerospace Agency for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DLR), the National Institute for Aerospace Research “Elie Carafoli” (INCAS), Teledyne FLIR LLC, NASA and NATO. She has over 500 peer-reviewed publications to her credit.
In addition to the Romanian Academy, Professor Botez received numerous awards from the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute, the Royal Aeronautical Society RAeS and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
