Through a partnership, ÉTS and Ericsson Canada are working to tackle some of the most pressing near-term challenges posed by quantum computing in telecommunications and beyond.
With support from the Mitacs Accelerate program, the project brings together Jacob Biamonte, professor in the Department of Software and IT Engineering and Director of the KÉTS Institute, his research team at ÉTS, and researchers from Ericsson’s Quantum Program.
The project aims to develop better quantum computing methods that will help run and manage telecommunications networks more efficiently. It will also train students and researchers in cutting-edge quantum technologies, supporting Canada’s leadership in this field. Building on Professor Biamonte’s foundational contributions to variational quantum computing, the partnership investigates methods to mitigate errors and improve optimization in quantum algorithms. Using quantum hardware and simulations, the team aims to advance the reliability and practical performance of quantum computation.
This partnership gives Professor Biamonte, an internationally recognized quantum computing researcher, and his research team the means to pursue ambitious research at the frontier of quantum computing. It also reinforces ÉTS’s contribution to advancing quantum research and training the next generation of talent, while supporting Canada’s long-term scientific and technological leadership.
