This program offers exciting MSc and PhD opportunities within the Railway Ground Hazard Research Program (RGHRP), a national collaboration among leading universities, railway companies, and government agencies. Students will develop innovative solutions to improve rail safety and climate resilience through field monitoring, remote sensing, geotechnical investigations, machine learning, and large-scale data analytics. Research includes landslides, rockfalls, tunnel inspections, soft subgrade performance, and AI-enabled hazard assessment for Canada’s rail network.

We are actively recruiting for the following projects:

  • Automated topographical characterization of unlined tunnels along railway lines (MSC);
  • Automated interpretation of fiber-optic monitoring and rock fall triggering events along railway lines (MSc, PhD);
  • Deep learning framework for geohazard monitoring and characterization with large topographical and temporal data sets (MSc, PhD);
  • Optimization of error margins and level of detection for large-scale change detection along rock slopes (MSc, PhD).
