Semantic Web and social network research projects

Research projects in social network/wiki sites and open source analysis. The enhancement of corporate data using web-based data is an area of applied research that can greatly improve business decisions and provide a significant strategic advantage. Web, document, video and wiki content analysis techniques require the use of big-data infrastructures and command of linked-data techniques.
Our ongoing projects include:
Wiki text analysis (open science project)
The publication of articles is a lengthy and costly process and the results are often private. The open data movement, recently supported by the European Union, aims to liberalize this process. The project aims to enable the evolution of an existing article by opening its content to comments and modifications by the community of interest, which would lead to a collective work.
Challenge
Provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss and make changes to an article that has already been published. There are several challenges:
- Who is going to participate and propose changes.
- How to manage and accept the proposed changes.
- How to differentiate between minor and major contributions.
- How to recognize the contributions of authors and identify the most influential or serious contributors.
What we did
The GRISOU team proposed a wiki, an adaptation of MediaWiki, tailored to this situation. It will be tested by the IEEE Computer Society, in a trial involving four papers already published in the journal IEEE Software.
The aim of the experiment is to see how to test and meet the challenges posed by this new collaborative publishing approach. Following the trial, a special edition of the magazine will report on the results obtained during the experiment.

Improved query accuracy
Challenge
This project aims to improve query accuracy by adding advanced document search techniques. Google is the world leader in the field with its Machine Translation for Query Expansion patent and snippet and statistical machine translation techniques. The aim is to continue the excellent work done by M'hammed Oulaidi (PDF, in French), which consisted in including a multilingual thesaurus using Ginco to improve query quality.
Technologies used:
Conversion to open-source software
Challenge
The transition to open-source software is not that easy, but it can be done. Should the company renew its Microsoft licences or use Linux and its OpenOffice desktop software? What is the feasibility and what are the migration costs besides just licensing? Research projects in open-source software seek to find the software that best meets needs and study the conversion project. Check out this article (PDF, in French) for an overview of the issue.
Open-source software conversion guides: project to identify and select an open-source software replacement, from impact analysis for migration to the development of a conversion guide.
