ÉTS will undertake the demolition of the buildings at the Dow Complex for safety reasons and to address applicable code and regulatory requirements. Work is scheduled to begin in winter 2027. This page brings together all information and updates about the project.
- Winter to summer 2027: Demolition work;
- Fall 2027 to spring 2028: Soil decontamination and environmental remediation;
- Spring to fall 2028: Other related work and temporary landscaping of outdoor areas accessible to the public;

This schedule will be updated as the project progresses.
Reasons for demolition
ÉTS recently received a professional assessment indicating that the buildings at the Dow Complex have deteriorated significantly. The assessment identified public safety concerns and confirmed that demolition is necessary to ensure the safety of the site and the surrounding community. In this context, ÉTS must act responsibly and carry out the necessary work.
Mitigating impacts during construction
As with any construction or demolition project, the work may generate noise, dust, increase truck traffic and require temporary street closures. The neighbourhood has already been experienced several construction projects over the past few years, and ÉTS is aware that this project will add to the existing disruptions.
- planning and carrying out the work in a way that minimizes disruption;
- closely monitoring the impacts of the work;
- providing advance notice of important developments, particularly activities likely to generate significant noise or dust;
- establishing mechanisms to respond promptly to reported issues.
The future of the site
ÉTS submitted a proposal to the provincial government that included the construction of a new university building. However, the funding required to carry out the project has not yet been secured.
In the long term, ÉTS hopes to use the site to support its mission and meet the growing needs of its university community. Discussions about the site's future will take place over several years. Residents, local businesses, community organizations and the ÉTS community will be kept informed.
