Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently announced new requirements for post-graduation work permits (PGWP), effective November 1, 2024.
All PGWP applicants will now be required to demonstrate their language proficiency in English or French. A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 7 is required for applicants who have graduated from a university program.
New study program requirements will also apply to students who do not complete a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree and who applied for a study permit after November 1, 2024. These students will now need to graduate from a program associated with certain long-term shortage occupations. Therefore, students already in Canada with a study permit as of November 1, 2024 will not have to meet this requirement, if they remain in the same program and level of study.
See all the details regarding the new requirements on the IRCC website.
