New Consortium in Artificial Intelligence to Improve Pediatric Acute Care

Professor Rita Noumeir, from the Department of Electrical Engineering at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), will co-direct a new research consortium dedicated to artificial intelligence for pediatric acute care. This ambitious project, supported by a grant from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), aims to combine artificial intelligence and digital health to advance research in these fields while attracting next-gen scientists.


“Digital data sciences are transforming healthcare on a global scale. It’s a fascinating field of research, with tangible benefits for young patients and healthcare professionals,” emphasizes Prof. Noumeir. She will be co-directing the group with Dr. Philippe Jouvet of the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine.


Working with massive data, increasingly abundant and diversified in medicine, will help improve clinical decision-making. These data need to be interpreted in the light of the most recent medical knowledge, to offer better adapted care based on best practices. Ultimately, this approach will promote more efficient, personalized patient care management.

The consortium will focus on the acute care of children, a population that requires special attention due to the variability of needs across age groups. Indeed, appropriate treatments for newborns, infants, toddlers and teenagers can differ significantly.


In addition to Professor Noumeir, a dozen researchers from the Université de Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal and CHU Sainte-Justine will be taking part in this interdisciplinary gathering.


This initiative shows a growing recognition of the expertise developed at ÉTS in data sciences applied to healthcare. It puts our researchers at the forefront of a rapidly evolving field.
