Studying at ÉTS is stimulating... and demanding! It's not uncommon to feel the need for help when things get challenging. Student Services (SVE) offer free support to help you succeed.

Individual Consultations

Whether you're just starting your academic journey, looking to improve your performance, or facing difficulties in a course, you can benefit from personalized support with a learning support advisor.

Toolbox

  • Inside the mind of a master procrastinator (vidéo en anglais)
  • Use the Jardin app (available in French only) to write in a fun yet effective way using the Pomodoro time management technique. Additionally, check monthly statistics showing your progress and that of other users.
  • Use the Chrono app (available in French only) to write in time blocks and geolocate people currently writing around the world and chat with them.

  • The non-profit organization Thèsez-vous offers a wide variety of activities and resources to support the writing of a dissertation, thesis, articles, and scholarship applications. You can even participate in writing retreats! Available in French only
  • The Polèdre platform, created by education and language didactics professors, aims to support the training of graduate students by offering a space where they will find answers to questions about the scientific approach in the form of video capsules. Available in French only.

Learning Support for Graduate Students

Targeted support is available for master’s and doctoral students to help develop skills for academic success. These services will help you adapt to graduate studies, stay organized, and progress through your study project.

Consultations tailored to the needs of graduate students!

In addition to individual consultations offered to the entire ÉTS student community, graduate students can access tailored appointments that reflect their reality. Between one and five sessions can help you identify challenges and develop the necessary skills.

A specialized advisor is available to help with challenges such as perfectionism, demotivation, impostor syndrome, maintaining life balance, and communication with your supervisor.

Writing Assistance

During tailored consultations, you can also get help to improve your writing process and overcome psychological and organizational barriers.

Our advisor can support you with:

  • Planning and organizing writing
  • Creating a writing schedule and work plan
  • Addressing psychological obstacles
  • Overcoming writer’s block
  • Applying writing strategies and methodology
  • Creating a productive work environment

We also offer virtual workshops and personalized help in written French to support your writing goals.

Virtual Group Workshops

These three-hour online workshops focus on developing your academic writing. Each is independent, so you can attend only those you need.

  • From Idea to Action: Plan and write a scientific text with confidence
  • Demystifying Engineering Writing Style
  • Structuring and Writing Reports, Theses, or Dissertations
  • Writing a Thesis Introduction
  • Structuring and Writing a Literature Review
  • Writing Clearly and Coherently from Sentence to Paragraph

Please note that workshops are in French, but English-speaking students can attend and ask questions in English. 

This series of workshops is offered twice per session. Regularly check the events page to see the currently scheduled workshops and to register. Note that you can search by keyword or filter activities related to graduate studies.

Personalized Assistance in Written French

The Student Services offer individual writing assistance. This service helps identify areas to improve. After submitting your text, you'll receive detailed feedback to:

  • Identify and correct linguistic errors (grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax)
  • Understand scientific writing style (neutrality, clarity, objectivity)
  • Improve coherence and clarity
  • Learn about structure and content of scientific texts

Please note that this is not a proofreading service—no changes will be made to the text.

NeuroFOCUS Program for Graduate Students

This free group workshop series helps reduce isolation and balance your graduate experience. It includes an hour and a half of physical activity with a kinesiologist, ten to fifteen minutes of guided meditation, and an hour and a quarter of discussion workshops.

Graduate Studies Hub
