About the Challenge

Organic waste (OW) often accounts for 50 to 80% of municipal waste, making its recovery a major challenge for promoting a circular economy in this sector. Among the promising solutions, valorization through black soldier fly (BSF) larvae stands out as an effective and versatile approach. This process transforms food and organic waste into larval biomass rich in proteins and lipids, which can be used for animal feed, bioenergy, and nutrient recycling.

The proposed project aims to explore the mechanisms of co-degradation of organic waste mixtures and assess their impact on larval growth and lipid accumulation. Several experimental parameters will be optimized to identify the most effective operating conditions for maximizing both the productivity and quality of the resulting biomass, with a view to applications within a circular economy framework.
