These programs are directed at International students (with study visa or work permit) who wish to undertake or continue their studies or research activities in Québec. Submitting an application made on the recommendation of an ÉTS faculty member. Recommendations must be received no later than June 15, 2026. 

Plan to submit an application one year in advance: 
The current competition is open to students who wish to obtain financing beginning Summer 2027, Fall 2027 or Winter 2028.

Amount and duration

  • Master: $20,000/year (max. 2 years)
  • Doctorate: $25,000/year (max. 3 years)
  • Short-term research project or professional development: $3,000/month (max. 4 months). At the time of filing an application, the candidate must not be enrolled at ÉTS.
  • Postdoctoral component: $35,000 for one year

Eligibility criteria

  • Must not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
  • Must not have made an application for permanent residence under Canadian immigration law;
  • Must be recommended by an ÉTS professor (thesis supervisor) or supervisor.

For the postdoctoral component: 
Postdoctoral research must not be conducted at ÉTS if the student was granted a doctoral degree at ÉTS. A candidate’s doctoral supervisors and co-supervisors may not act as their postdoctoral supervisor, even if they have changed institutions.

Selection criteria

  • An internal selection process will determine which candidates will be recommended to the FRQ selection committee;
  • The shortlisted candidates will then be invited by FRQ to submit an application for a scholarship.

Required documents

  • 1st step: The supervisor must send the recommendation form (available in the Intranet) to the Dean of Studies Office at infobourses@etsmtl.ca.
  • 2nd step: The Dean of Studies Office will contact the recommended candidate to inform them of the procedure to follow for filing the application.
