Targeted support for master's and doctoral students is designed to foster the development of skills necessary for academic success. The various services offered aim to provide you with the tools needed to facilitate your adaptation and integration into graduate studies, organize yourself, and progress as efficiently as possible throughout your study project until graduation.
Consultations tailored to the needs of graduate students!
In addition to individual consultations offered to the entire ÉTS student community, graduate students have access to personalized appointments that take into account their specific reality.
Benefit from one to five meetings to identify your personal challenges and needs and target the actions to be taken to develop the skills and competencies necessary for the advancement of your study project.
A specialized learning support advisor for graduate students is available to offer support on several levels. Perfectionism, demotivation or loss of meaning related to the study project, impostor syndrome, difficulty maintaining a balanced lifestyle, and communication difficulties with the research supervisor are frequently addressed themes.
Writing Assistance
During tailored consultations, you can also receive help to optimize the entire writing process and overcome psychological, behavioral, and organizational challenges related to writing by adopting good practices that enhance productivity and efficiency.
Our advisor can help you at several levels: :
- Planning and organizing writing;
- Writing schedule and work plan;
- Psychological aspects influencing the writing process;
- Writer's block or blank page syndrome;
- General writing strategies and methodology;
- Work environment.
Additionally, we offer virtual group workshops and personalized assistance in written French to help you achieve your goals.

Virtual Group Workshops
A series of three-hour online workshops aimed at developing writing skills is offered to equip you for writing your academic papers and research projects. The workshops are independent of each other, so you can attend the ones that meet your specific needs.
- From Idea to Action: Plan and write a scientific text with confidence;
- Demystifying the Writing Style in Engineering;
- Effectively Structuring and Composing a Project Report, Thesis, or Dissertation;
- Writing the Introduction of a Thesis or Dissertation: The Recipe for Success;
- Effectively Structuring and Composing a Literature Review;
- Writing with Logic, Coherence, and Clarity from Sentence to Paragraph.
Please note that the workshops are offered in French, but English-speaking participants can attend and ask questions in English.
This series of workshops is offered twice per session. Regularly check the events page to see the currently scheduled workshops and to register. Note that you can search by keyword or filter activities related to graduate studies.
Additionally, check the library's calendar (in french only) for writing workshops.
Personalized Assistance in Written French
The Student Services offer individual writing assistance. Use this service to identify areas for improvement based on a current writing project. After submitting your text, an analysis will be conducted, and you will receive pedagogical feedback that will allow you to:
- Become aware of your linguistic errors (grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax) and correct them;
- Understand and apply the style to be adopted in a scientific context (neutrality, conciseness, objectivity, appropriate language register, etc.);
- Improve the clarity and coherence of your text;
- Obtain information on the structure and general content of a scientific text.
Please note that this is not a correction service (no modifications will be made to the text); the goal is to understand the reasons for the errors to better avoid them in the future.
If you have specific questions about writing, you can also make an appointment with our learning support advisor for graduate students.
To access this service, write to soutien.redaction@etsmtl.ca.

It is completely free and aims to break isolation and make your university journey as balanced and effective as possible by combining three activities: an hour and a half of physical activity with a kinesiologist from the Sports Center, ten to fifteen minutes of guided meditation, and an hour and a quarter of discussion workshops.
