A blood test to detect cancer
Context
Liquid biopsy offers a new era of cancer diagnosis by making tumor detection possible through a simple blood draw. In this context, our lab is developing the next generation of molecular technologies to improve on the sensitivity and specificity of circulating tumor DNA detection (ctDNA). This project offers the opportunity to make a tangible advances in technology development and precision medicine.
Objectives
The student will actively participate in the development of a liquid biopsy technology. Tasks will consist of:
- Design new molecular biology protocols for improved cancer detection;
- cfDNA extraction from plasma;
- Preparing next generation sequencing libraries;
- Developing and deploying bioinformatics software for data analysis
The objective is to create a technology that is robust, reproducible and sensitive in its ability to identify genetic alterations associated with cancer.
Required knowledge
We are looking for a student who is passionate about biomedical engineering and state of the art technologies.
- Solid foundation in molecular biologie or programming will be considered an asset, but is not required
- Scientific curiosity, initiative and commitment to teamwork are required.
