From Quanta to Qualia

Jointly organized by ÉTS Montréal and the Foundational Questions Institute (FQxI) with the participation of ÉTS's Institute of Quantum Science and Engineering, the event is intended for researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and members of the broader scientific community.

Due to the participation of international speakers and attendees, presentations and discussions will be conducted in English.

From Quanta to Qualia brings together researchers in quantum physics, computer science, and philosophy of mind, as well as industry participants, to explore some of the major questions facing contemporary science.

The event examines how advances in our understanding of quantum mechanics, agency, and subjective experience may shape the technologies and society of tomorrow.

Topics covered include:

  • Why consciousness matters for society and industry;
  • Consciousness, agency, and AI;
  • Measurement, Bell’s theorem, and fertile disagreements in quantum theory;
  • Quantum information: laws, limits, and technologies.
