The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is a professional organization of aerospace engineers, scientists and students with 30,000 members, including 8,000 students.

The AIAA ÉTS Student Chapter is the student branch of AIAA at ÉTS, whose academic advisor, since its creation in 2020, has been Professor Ruxandra Botez, Fellow of AIAA, Professor in the Systems Engineering Department.

General goal

AIAA plays an important role in transmitting technological advances through conferences and publications in aerospace trade journals.

The ÉTS student branch aims to keep students informed of aerospace news and promote aerospace study programs. This includes publicizing research projects conducted in ÉTS laboratories such as the Laboratoire de Recherche en Commande Active, Avionique et Aéroservoélasticité (LARCASE).

Philosophy

Shaping the future of aerospace

About

The AIAA ÉTS Student Chapter recruits students for research projects as part of their academic careers, as well as for writing and presenting scientific articles for publication in AIAA journals.

As a student association, AIAA ÉTS promotes student involvement by organizing events such as luncheon conferences and industrial visits. This enables students to develop their leadership skills, strengthen their ability to communicate both in writing (scientific articles, posters) and orally, and popularize their aerospace research project in front of a varied audience. AIAA ÉTS works closely with the LARCASE laboratory, which boasts two highly certified flight simulators and a wind tunnel, as well as with other ÉTS laboratories specialized in aeronautics.

École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) has been selected by the AIAA to host the AIAA 2025 Regional Student Conference in Montreal. This choice was made possible thanks to the contribution of Prof. Ruxandra Botez, Chair of the LARCASE laboratory. Professor Botez was recently named AIAA Fellow 2024, a high distinction in aeronautics.

Objectives for 2025

In addition to promoting aerospace at ÉTS, in 2025 AIAA ÉTS is organizing Canada's first AIAA Student Conference . It's a competition in which students from Canada and the Northeastern U.S. present their papers and are evaluated by professionals. A networking evening is also organized for students, companies and other players in the aerospace industry.

Competition

At the AIAA 2025 RegionaI Student Conference, a competition will be held for the best papers and presentations. Three prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in the undergraduate, graduate and team categories at the awards ceremony. Students will have the opportunity to publish their work with AIAA and receive quality feedback from the judges.
