These grants fund internships within a partner organization which agrees to contribute to the financing and to host the student at its premises, where he/she works on activities related to a joint research project. The intern must spend at least 50% of his research time at the partner organization.

The grants are accompanied by recommended professional development training that will maximize the intern’s learning and project efficacy.

This program offers a lot of flexibility in terms of eligibility, duration of internships and allocation of time for research at the partner.

Amount and duration

  • $40,000 for 18 months (Master’s) / maximum 3 internships;
  • $80,000 for 36 months (PhD) / maximum 6 internships.

The amount is paid to the professor as a research grant. The intern receives a minimum of:

  • $30,000 (master’s);
  • $72,000 (PhD).

An amount of $10,000 (master’s) or $8,000 (PhD) is available to defray research-related costs.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates:

  • Be enrolled full-time at ÉTS in a master's or doctoral program.

Eligibility of partners:

  • For-profit businesses in Canada;
  • Certain NPOs in Canada;
  • Certain crown corporations.

Importante note:

  • Before preparing an application file, the student must first speak to his thesis or project supervisor, because it is the professor who presents the case to MITACS since it is a research grant.
