Numerical modeling and sensitivity analysis of the energy performance of heating and cooling radiant systems
Space heating and cooling energy end-use accounts for 60 to 65 % of the overall energy consumption in buildings. Therefore, design and operation optimisation of heating and cooling systems is needed and should be largely guided by the desired thermal comfort and energy saving requirements. Hydronic radiant systems are qualified to satisfy such requirements. The proposed research project aims to develop robust numerical models to be used as making decision and optimisation tools. A sensitivity analysis based on Design of Experiments method (DoE) is required to taking into account interactions between intrinsic and extrinsic factors of heating and cooling radiant systems replacing the widely used one-factor-at-a-time parametric analysis.
