Oil-Free Bearing Damper Project - NPR Bearing Damper
(NPR = Negative Poisson Ratio)

Motivation: Replace oil damper bearing with gas damping for oil-free applications
* Eliminate cost of oil skid
* Operational flexibility

Overall vision: Developing an oil-free bearing damper that can be implemented across the turbomachinery portfolio

Project tasks and deliverables:
• Develop a model to predict damping through thin air-gap structure
• Target a specific damping coefficient across a range of frequencies
• Validate the model using sub-scale fabricated coupons in a vibratory/dynamic test rig
• Provide inputs to design prototype-scale bearing damping system

Potential collaboration with National Research Council for validation testing using dynamic load frame

Connaissances requises

* Interest and preliminary experience in structural analysis, dynamics, mechanical design and integrity & advanced manufacturing / Intérêt et expérience préliminaire en science des matériaux (béton / composites) et fabrication avancée
* Interest in industrial collaboration projects (project management)/ Intérêt pour les projets de collaboration industrielle
