Professor Eric Granger joined the ETS in 2004, where he is presently Full Professor in the department of Automated Manufacturing Engineering. Over the past decade, his research has focused on adaptive pattern recognition, computer vision and computational intelligence, with applications in biometrics, video surveillance, and computer/network security.  Before joining ETS, he earned Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 2001, and worked as a Defence Scientist at DRDC-Ottawa (1999-2001), and in R&D with Mitel Networks (2001-04). His doctoral research focused on neural network signal processing and microelectronics for electronic surveillance systems.

Intérêts en recherche

Je démarre présentement plusieurs activités de recherche et de développement liées à mon axe principal de recherche – soit explorer et développer des techniques robustes d'apprentissage incrémental pour la détection et la classification automatique. Mes principaux intérêts de recherche gravitent autour:

  • de la reconnaissance de formes;
  • des systèmes intelligents et évolutifs;
  • d’algorithmes pour l’apprentissage incrémental;
  • de la détection de nouveauté;
  • des réseaux de neurones artificiels;
  • des modèles de Markov cachés, des grammaires stochastiques, et des réseaux Bayesiens;
  • de l’intégration de systèmes microélectroniques;
  • de la cryptographie et sécurité dans les réseaux informatiques.

Les domaines d’application qui sont ciblés par mes recherches ont trait aux systèmes adaptatifs pour la reconnaissance, la sécurité et la surveillance, soit:

  • la surveillance militaire: (1) la reconnaissance rapide de l'identité et de l’état d’émetteurs radar; (2) la détection de changements et l’analyse d’événements et de situations à partir d’images satellitaire;
  • la sécurité dans les réseaux informatiques: la détection d’intrusions (i.e., d’anomalies et de mauvais emploi);
  • la reconnaissance biométrique: la reconnaissance de visages en environnements non contraints, la vérification de signatures manuscrites, la conception de filtres numériques pour la restauration d’images;
  • la reconnaissance de formes en général: la reconnaissance automatique de caractères manuscrits.
