The Tuition calculator will provide you with an estimate for each study session, based on the number of credits, the type of educational activities and your legal status.

Tuition fees at ÉTS are set by the Government of Québec, and are subject to change every year. The fees remain the same regardless of the teaching mode (in classroom, virtual, hybrid). The amounts shown are for the 2024-2025 academic year.

*Doctoral students receive an exemption bursary for the fixed amount if they are not already receiving a scholarship from another MEES program. You can access the letter confirming your exemption via your MonÉTS portal. The bursary will be applied automatically approximately five weeks after the beginning of each session, with no action required on your part.

Definition of status

The Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur du Québec (MES) sets tuition fees based on nationality and place of residence. Depending on their status, other students must pay a fixed amount in addition to the fees paid by Québec students.

This section defines the various types of legal status, references the official sources that determine the management rules and details the basic cost set for each credit and the fixed amounts that apply to each status (as applicable).

Québec resident student status:

  • A Canadian or First Nations citizen born in Quebec or outside Quebec or Canada but residing in Quebec;
  • A permanent resident of Canada who holds a CSQ or who has resided in Quebec for a certain period of time;
  • Other situations that meet the criteria established by the Regulation respecting the definition of resident in Quebec.

The cost per credit for a Quebec resident student is $98.91.

Canadian student not residing in Québec status:

  • A Canadian or First Nations citizen born in a province other than Québec or born outside of Canada;
  • A permanent resident of Canada who does not hold a CSQ and who has not resided in Québec in the last few months.

If you believe that you qualify as a Quebec resident, complete the Quebec Residency Attestation form (in French), assemble the documents required by the Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur based on your situation and send them via the Info-ÉTS form. If applicable, the change of status will be applied as of the on going session.

The cost per credit for a non-Quebec resident student does not vary based on level of study. A fixed amount is added to the basic fee of $98.91 as follows:

  • $209.81, for a total of $308.72 per credit

Pursuant to student mobility agreements between the Government of Québec, the French Republic and the French Community of Belgium:

  • A student who holds a valid French passport or an international student who holds a valid passport from the Kingdom of Belgium and identifies as Francophone Belgian based on a copy of their identification card; AND
  • A student who holds a study permit and a certificate of acceptance from Québec (CAQ).

The cost per credit for a French or Francophone Belgian student varies based on the level of study and the type of educational activity. A fixed amount is added to the basic fee of $98.91, as follows:

  • Undergraduate level: $209.81, for a total of $308.72 per credit
  • Graduate and post-graduate levels: No fixed amount is added, with the exception of credit courses, to which $209.81 is added, for a total of $308.72 per credit

If you come from a partner institution that has signed an agreement with ÉTS, you may be able to take advantage of certain specific financial arrangements. If you have questions related to this subject, please contact the International Relations Service (international@etsmtl.ca), and be sure to indicate your permanent code. Also note that students in exchange programs (4069, 4023) do not pay tuition fees at ÉTS.

International student status:

  • A student who is not a citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and who holds a study permit and a certificate of acceptance from Quebec (CAQ).

Some people may be exempt from paying additional tuition fees. Consult the Exemptions from differential tuition fees based on immigration status webpage to verify whether you meet the eligibility criteria (e.g.: refugee or protected person holding a CSQ, spouse of certain work permit holders, etc.).

The cost per credit for an international student varies based on the level of study. A fixed amount is added to the basic fee of $98.91, as follows:

  • Undergraduate level: $921.41, for a total of $1 020.32 per credit
  • Graduate level* :
    • M.Eng. or DESS: $775.17, for a total of $874.08 per credit
    • M.A.Sc.: $578.42, for a total of $677.33 per credit
  • PhD program: $98.91 per credit**

* Students who have completed and paid for all of their research or project credits (ACTIVIT or REDAC) can use the Tuition calculator (in French) to estimate the fees to be paid during 0 credit sessions.

** Students who are registered for full-time studies in a doctoral (PhD) program are automatically exempted from the $509.08 per credit fixed amount by ÉTS, with the exception of those who already receive a government scholarship that covers this fixed amount (e.g.: one of the MEES financial assistance programs). In other words, all doctoral students pay the same amount for their education, regardless of their status.

Research interns and postdoctoral fellows do not pay tuition fees at ÉTS. However, you may be charged for Desjardins insurance fees if you are not eligible for the RAMQ. Detailed information is available on the Insurance and health care for international students page.

Institutional fees and other expenses

Certain mandatory institutional fees, voluntary contributions and the insurance fees detailed below are added to the amount for tuition fees. Co-op work term and internship fees

Tuition fees apply during co-op work term sessions (Bachelor programs) and during industrial internships (M.Eng.).

To increase accessibility to co-op work terms for French, Francophone Belgian and international students, ÉTS has made arrangements to reduce the financial burden during these periods, including scholarships credited directly to the student’s account (no action is required other than the student entering their social insurance number in the MonÉTS portal) and exemption from paying certain institutional fees.

Note

Company integration projects (MTR-type activities) are not considered to be industrial internships. Project credits are charged at the same rates as regular credits.
