Some 625 proud young men and women were on hand to celebrate the awarding of their Bachelor, Master and Doctoral diplomas, accompanied by and enthusiastically applauded by their loved ones. The ÉTS Management team took advantage of this solemn ceremony to bestow upon Alain Abran the prestigious title of Professor Emeritus, and to publicly honour him in front of the more than 2,000 people in attendance.
Governor General’s Academic Medals
The ceremony also offered an opportunity to present the Academic Medals from Governor General Mary Simon to two exceptional ÉTS graduates. Karthik Gopinath and Samuel Nadeau were awarded their respective Gold and Silver Medals by Alexandre Cloutier, the new President of Université du Québec.
These prestigious Medals recognize excellence at the various academic levels. The Gold Medal is awarded to the graduate or post-graduate student who attains the highest grade during the final year of a university program, and the Silver Medal is awarded to the student who attains the highest grade at the undergraduate level, leading to a Bachelor degree.
In earning his Doctorate, Karthik Gopinath obtained a perfect GPA of 4.3 for his entire program. Under the direction of Professor Hervé Lombaert of the Software Engineering Department, Mr. Gopinath’s dissertation entitled Geometrical Learning of Brain Surface Data also received the Board of Governors Award of Excellence for 2022 for quality. Mr. Gopinath is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School.
Samuel Nadeau, the winner of the Silver Medal, also graduated from the Software Engineering Department, having attained an exceptional GPA of 4.28 out of 4.3 in his Bachelor program.
In addition to the ovations that they received during the ceremony, ÉTS is proud to offer its congratulations to all graduates and award winners!
