With the cancellation of foreign study trips, other options are being explored

Thursday, October 15, 2020

ÉTS has been forced to cancel all foreign study trips, co-op work terms and research abroad for the Winter 2021 semester in keeping with the multitude of government directives related to the current worldwide pandemic.

In effect, pursuant to the procédure sur la sécurité des étudiants en déplacement à l’extérieur du Québec, (procedure respecting the safety of students travelling outside of Québec – in French), ÉTS must prohibit any travel outside of the province in areas that fall under Advisory Level 3 and 4 as determined by the Gouvernment of Canada. In addition, a number of partner universities have already announced the cancellation of their programs for the Winter semester, thus making foreign study semester on their campuses impossible.

Other proposed solutions

Despite the cancellation of foreign study trips, ÉTS would like to provide students who wish to experience international studies with a virtual option, subject to certain conditions to be determined at a later date.

It is also important to note that, if a student’s academic path allows, it may be possible to postpone a foreign study trip to the Fall 2021 session, pursuant to specific procedures.

In the meantime, the scholarship program will be suspended in anticipation of the reinstatement of foreign study semesters.

Adapting to reality

ÉTS is monitoring the situation closely, and other procedures may be announced in the coming weeks. This decision was made in consideration of the health and safety of all members of our student community.

The team at the Student Recruitment and International Coordination Office remains available to you. A detailed communication will be sent to students who have submitted an application for a foreign study semester or co-op work term.
