Plane crash in Iran
Ceremony to honour the victimsWednesday, January 22, 2020
The entire ÉTS community gathered yesterday evening to pay its final respects to Aida Farzaneh, a Ph.D. student and Instructor in the Construction Engineering Department, along with her spouse, Arvin Morattab, who was a Ph.D. student at ÉTS in 2018.
François Gagnon, Director General of ÉTS; Danielle Monfet, a Professor in the Construction Engineering Department; Ouassima Akhrif, a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department; and Armin Morattab, the brother of Arvin, all spoke during the ceremony. Each individual testimony was followed by a musical piece played by a quartet from the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
Director General François Gagnon shared his thoughts: “The death of so many students and young professionals who had chosen to establish themselves in Canada represents a great loss for our society. This tragic event has led us to discover that ÉTS has a much larger Iranian community than we knew. It is my sincere hope that this school that you have chosen will remain a place where you feel welcome, and that Québec will be the land where anything is possible for you, and where you can achieve your personal and professional dreams and goals.”
