ÉTS announces $250,000 in emergency funding to help students in financial difficulty

École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) is pleased to announce the launch of an emergency fund to provide support for students who are experiencing financial difficulties during the COVID-19 crisis. Thanks to the generosity of donors and amounts accumulated by the Development Fund in recent years, ÉTS has released a total of $250,000.

According to François Gagnon, Director General of ÉTS: "This is an initial amount intended to assist students who are directly affected by the crisis. Some of them now find themselves in a precarious financial position, and in light of the announcement made by the Premier last week, the entire province of Québec has been plunged into an extremely troubling economic situation. That announcement also impacted our students who were carrying out work terms at companies, because some of these companies have suspended their operations. This crisis, which is affecting the entire world, is also having a significant impact on our students who are abroad and on international students who are currently attending ÉTS. They are subject to considerable concern and stress in this context of expatriation. We want to take the necessary measures to ensure the academic success of our students. We want to be there for them.”

The administration of the emergency fund will be coordinated by the Student Services team. Eligibility criteria and conditions, the processing of requests and all other procedures related to the emergency fund will be determined by April 1st. The criteria will be adjusted in accordance with the crisis situation as it evolves. Up to $1,500 in assistance will be provided, depending on the situation.

Our goal at ÉTS is to help students in urgent need to meet their basic necessities, and to prioritize cases involving a loss of income due to COVID-19.
