Cédrick Pautel, Acting Director General and Secretary General; Professor François Gagnon; and Charles Despins, Director of Faculty Affairs, Research and Partnerships.

In celebration of the valuable partnership that has been created through technology transfer activities in the area of wireless digital strategies for developing countries, ÉTS is delighted to pay tribute to Media5 Corporation.

TIt all began back in 2016, with a meeting between Louis Lagassé, President and Co Founder of Media5, and Professor François Gagnon, an expert in wireless telecommunications at ÉTS. A global supplier of multimedia communication solutions, Media5 had recently acquired existing wireless telecommunication systems installed in a number of developing countries around the world.

The company was looking to upgrade the equipment, which was sturdy enough, but lacked the ability to support modern telecommunications and data transfer. Mr. Lagassé was enthusiastic about the solution proposed by François Gagnon’s team, which involved rehabilitating the infrastructure assets in order to make the Internet accessible in rural regions of developing countries. The project subsequently led to the creation of the Richard J. Marceau Chair on Wireless IP Technology for Developing Countries. It is worth noting that more than 50% of the world’s population does not have Internet access.

Media5 has supported the activities of the Chair since its inception, including analyzing the technological state and the possibility of modernizing this long-range communication equipment.

In recognition of this valuable technology transfer partnership, ÉTS is proud to honour Media5 by presenting it with the Technology Transfer Partner Award.
