Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ)
ÉTS is monitoring the situation closelyWednesday, November 6, 2019
ÉTS has taken notice of the recent decision made by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration in connection with the Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ – Québec experience program), which facilitates the immigration process for international students.
This decision may have significant repercussions on the recruitment of students and on the appeal of programs offered in Québec, especially in the Engineering field. ÉTS would prefer to maintain its appeal and competitiveness among international students, and considers any measure that negatively affects its ability to attract international students to be unfavourable.
The impact on graduate and post-graduate students is a major concern for ÉTS, because it affects a population in excess of 1,300 international students. All Ph.D. programs and the majority of Master’s programs are absent from the list of programs that are eligible for the PEQ, despite the urgent needs of industry in these engineering-related areas. The impact on certain undergraduate programs remains to be determined.
ÉTS is joining its voice with that of the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI – Office of Interuniversity Cooperation), which is preparing to present arguments to the government to assess the consequences of decisions made in connection with this file.
ÉTS is proud of the diversity of its community, and considers it to be an essential aspect of innovation and the economic growth of Québec. It is committed to supporting its students and keeping them up to date with respect to future developments in this file.
