On September 12, 2019, François Gagnon was formally introduced as Director General of ÉTS in front of an audience of close to 400 in the Hall of the school’s Main Pavilion. Notable guests included Johanne Jean, President of Université du Québec, who was joined by members of the university and college sector and representatives of elected officials, companies and the ÉTS community.

This uplifting event took the form of an interview conducted by Cédrick Pautel, Secretary General of ÉTS, and represented the official assumption of office for the school’s sixth Director General. The interview formula provided the ÉTS community with an opportunity to get better acquainted with the new Director General, and to understand the fundamental underpinnings of his vision.

François Gagnon concluded the interview by stating: "We must all work together to create an institution to train the next generations of enlightened, diversified and highly qualified graduates who will meet the greatest challenges of the 21st century, innovate in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of our society and be committed to our community."

"Our ambition is to become a university where the best talents in engineering unite to change, reimagine and invent the determining concepts for the world of the future”, he explained enthusiastically. These words embody his vision, as incorporated into the 2019-2022 ÉTS Strategic Plan, which is slated for release later in the fall of 2019.

ÉTS has enjoyed continuous and sustained growth since its inception in 1974. In comparison with other Québec universities, it is even fair to say that ÉTS has experienced astounding growth. In terms of real estate, ÉTS is gradually transforming itself into an authentic university campus that is solidly rooted in the Griffintown neighbourhood.
