20 years of science, fun and memorable experiences

ÉTS hosts the 20th edition of "Les filles et les sciences, un duo électrisant!"

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

More than 300 young female students from the Secondary II and III levels gathered at ÉTS in an exciting and jubilant atmosphere on Saturday March 16, 2019 to take part in Les filles et les sciences, un duo électrisant! (women and science: and electrifying coupling). They were welcomed with a full and diverse schedule of events, from scientific workshops to presentations of study programs and career paths, creative activities, demonstrations and even a science show put on by scientific popularizer and host Martin Carli! More than a hundred volunteers and employees stepped up to lend a hand throughout this very special day, which was filled with fun, learning and discovery.

Les INGénieuses and other student clubs join in!
A number of students from Les INGénieuses de l’ÉTS were on hand to talk to the young women about the many opportunities available in engineering. Scientific clubs Dronolab, Éclipse voiture solaire, Canoë de béton, RockETS, Pont d’acier Hercule and PRÉCI, along with the bateau dragon Phoenix club also took part in the event, running scientific workshops and putting on demonstrations. Les filles et les sciences, un duo électrisant! is an event that generates a great deal of excitement and incites the entire ÉTS community to lend their support to this worthy cause!

The participants were able to try drones from the Dronolab scientific club at the ÉTS stand

An extremely relevant mission
This event, which just celebrated its 20th edition, has not lost any of its relevance or urgency over the years. One only has to consider that women represent a little less than 10% of the undergraduate student population at ÉTS to understand how difficult it is, even now, to recruit women into engineering. That is why ÉTS recently launched its Objectif Féminin pluriel (objective: increase female representation) campaign, which entails a commitment to implementing a series of actions aimed at increasing the percentage of female engineering students to 30% by 2030, in keeping with the goal of Les filles et les sciences, un duo électrisant! over the past 20 years.
