2018 Recognition Award Gala of the Palais des congrès de Montréal
Professor Jérémie Voix recognized for his contribution to occupational health and safetyFriday, November 23, 2018
ÉTS is proud to announce that the work of Jérémie Voix, full professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, and Franck Sgard, associate professor at ÉTS and researcher at the IRSST, was honoured at the 2018 Recognition Award Gala held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal last November 8th.
During the evening, the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé and en sécurité du travail (IRSST) awarded the IRSST – Ambassadors Club award to the two researchers for their work organizing the 26th International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV26) to be held at the Hotel Bonaventure Montreal in July 2019. They are the first-ever recipients of this award that was created this year.
Through its Recognition Award Gala – an annual celebration of business tourism – the Palais des congrès paid tribute to 18 “ambassadors”, who were instrumental during the past year in securing the booking of international conferences at the Palais. The Recognition Award Gala salutes these individuals from key segments of excellence in Montréal who have made exceptional contributions to the city’s economy and intellectual recognition.
The Palais des congrès de Montréal and the IRSST decided to join forces to promote research in the field of occupational health and safety through the organization of major national and international events in Montréal.
Research to protect against industrial noise
Jérémie Voix is an Acoustics Engineer. His work in acoustics, noise, advanced hearing protection and noise control has contributed to advances in occupational health and safety.
He has worked on several industrial noise-reduction projects and was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and VP for Scientific Research at Sonomax Hearing Healthcare Inc where he worked on the development of a “smart earplug”. He is a member of ÉTS’s occupational safety research team (ÉREST) and the Groupe d’acoustique de Montréal (GRAM). He also collaborates with the IRSST on projects involving individual hearing protection. Dr. Voix’s aim is to merge hearing protection, hearing aid and communication features inside a unique in-ear device, dubbed “bionic ear”.
He holds the NSERC-EERS Industrial Research Chair in In-Ear Technologies (CRITIAS) created in September 2016. The chair’s mission is to develop technologies designed to protect the human ear, enable communication in high-noise environments, incorporate wearable hearing diagnostics and, ultimately, integrate brain-computer interfaces within a single in-ear device.
Jérémie Voix and Franck Sgard are also part of the ICAR (Infrastructure commune en acoustique pour la recherche), a research and training laboratory on industrial acoustics that was born out of a successful collaboration between ÉTS and IRSST.
ÉTS would like to congratulate Jérémie Voix and Franck Sgard for their work promoting both ÉTS and Montréal.
