Industry 4.0 - Canada Research Chair (Tier 1)

The École de technologie supérieure, "ÉTS Montreal" one of Canada’s largest and fastest growing engineering schools, currently seeks applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair faculty position in the realm of Industry 4.0 ("smart manufacturing"). Building upon existing graduate study programs, this initiative is aligned with a long-term strategy to invest in disciplines related to Industry 4.0 and identified in the ÉTS Strategic Research Plan.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional researcher with a proven record of discovery and innovation. This individual will have demonstrated a clear ability to lead, manage and grow multi-institutional and multidisciplinary research collaborations. The candidate will be expected to develop a coherent research framework combining priority disciplines within the institution: robotics, materials and manufacturing processes, IoT (internet of things), cyber-security, big data, automation, and intelligent manufacturing cells and maintenance. The candidate will develop strong relationships particularly with industry and as well with partners in related academic fields and in government.

ÉTS Montreal has developed one of Canada’s largest and most active innovative manufacturing research groups recognized for academic excellence, strong industry links and technology transfer. The 54 professors of AÉROÉTS are leading researchers in major aerospace consortia such as CRIAQ, CARIC, GARDN, and SA2GE. Building upon this success, ÉTS Montreal recently launched an Industry 4.0 innovation hub also regrouping more than 50 faculty members and with the mission to spearhead collaborative research with respect to the 4.0 transition in various industry sectors. Moreover, ÉTS Montréal is involved in the recently announced Next-Generation Manufacturing Supercluster (NGM Canada). Thus, the candidate will benefit from numerous institutional and industrial partnerships to extend the scope of the Chair by funding specific projects that will go beyond the achievements of the Chair.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related discipline. Interested applicants should submit as one PDF document :

  • A 2-3 page statement explaining the candidate's vision for the research Chair, namely: :

    • how the Chair will ascertain ÉTS Montreal’s leadership in the field of the Chair;
