Luc Duong completed a B.Eng. (1999) and Ph.D. (2007) degrees from École Polytechnique de Montréal

He joined the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center in January 2000 as a software engineer and a research associate.  He contributed to the design and development of navigation software to assist the surgical correction of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). 

From May 2004 to August 2007, he focused on designing a classification system aimed to better guide the surgical treatment of AIS under the supervision of Prof. Farida Cheriet and Dr Hubert Labelle. M. Duong introduced machine learning and pattern recognition techniques to the study of spinal deformities. Moreover, he proposed a software methodology, jointly with the Scoliosis Research Society to design a new 3-D classification, better adapted to the study of spinal deformities. 

From October 2007 to October 2008, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Interventional Imaging Departement of Siemens Corporate Research, Princeton NJ.  The project was aimed towards image-guided navigation of Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO) in Cardiology.  Under the supervision of Chenyang Xu, he developed an expertise in image guided procedures of coronary arteries. This project was jointly conducted in collaboration with the Erasmus MC ThoraxCentrum in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. 

He is currently member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec since Januray 2000, member of IEEE and member of the MICCAI Society.
