Admission

The application for admission is the first administrative step to undertake university studies. In order to be able to enroll in a course or program at ÉTS, you must first be admitted by the Registrar's Office. Being admitted means that you meet the eligibility criteria of the program of study requested and grants you the right to register for courses in the program of study chosen.

Admission letter

Definition

If your application for admission into a program at ÉTS is accepted, you will receive an e-mail notification via the Omnivox portal that gives you access to your admission letter. This letter includes all of the information required to activate your MonÉTS student portal.

Particularité

The admission letter is the only official document issued by ÉTS to confirm your acceptance into a program. The terms ‘admission letter’, ‘acceptance letter’ and ‘exchange letter’ all refer to the same document!

Important information for international students

Your letter of admission to ÉTS includes all of the information required to begin your immigration procedures. Follow the procedure indicated on our Immigration – Before your studies page.

Admission with conditions

Definition

An admission may be definitive or conditional. Admission conditions are the criteria that a student must satisfy to be admitted into a program. It is important to ensure that you comply with these conditions within the established deadlines to avoid expulsion.

Specifications

Any time ÉTS modifies your admission conditions (condition fulfilled, additional specifications from ÉTS, decision postponed), you will receive an e-mail informing you that a new admission letter is available through Omnivox and MonÉTS.

Important information for international students

A conditional admission letter does not prevent you from beginning your immigration procedures, and does not affect your approval. It is worth noting that the majority of international students are subject to admission with conditions.

If you have questions concerning admissions, please write to admission@etsmtl.ca.

Postponement of admission

Definition

ÉTS allows up to two postponements of admission for a maximum of three sessions following the initial admission. Postponement of admission does not occur automatically. You must submit a request via the Omnivox portal. There is no cost for submitting a request.

Specifications

If you were registered for any courses, they will be cancelled and you will be reimbursed, as applicable. If you do not follow up on your admission (register or request a postponement), ÉTS will consider that you have abandoned your studies, and will close your file at the deadline for course changes with refund.

Important information for international students

In the case of a postponement, it is important for you to verify the validity of your immigration documents and take all necessary steps to remain in compliance with immigration regulations. Consult the Postponement, absence and expulsion tab.

Changement de programme

Program change

It is possible to change your program before it starts or during your studies, in accordance with the application deadlines at ÉTS. To do so, you must submit a new application for admission and pay the associated fees. The Registrar’s Office will inform you if you are exempt from submitting certain documents that it has already received.

Specifications

Being admitted to a new program does not cancel the previous admission. It is possible to be admitted to multiple programs. Your final choice of program will be validated upon registration.

Important information for international students

International students are authorized to change learning institutions (the new institution must be a designated learning institution) or to change study programs within the same institution, as long as they continue to respect the conditions of their study permit. If such a change involves interrupting your studies, you will not be authorized to work during the period of interruption. Consult our Immigration page for more detailed information
